š± Spring Newsletter š£
Kia Ora Koutou,
Spring is finally upon us! The longer light in the evenings makes everything seem more hopeful. New shoots sprouting through withered undergrowth, green leaves peeping out from empty tree branches. And with these small signals of spring comes the reminder that summer will eventually come around the corner, bringing the holiday season with it. I often think about how lucky we are to have a summer Christmas, despite how as a child I yearned for one with snow. But it just seems so much less stressful to have family gatherings and celebrations on long sunny afternoons, at the beach or in the backyard, barbeques blazing..
But enough wistfulness! Thereās still work to be done. Certainly if we want to actually have a summer holiday. Traditionally we take a 2 week break over the holiday season but this really is a luxury - the bills unfortunately donāt take a break, and we have to have the funds to keep paying them, even without making sales in that time. And we have plenty to pay - our new kitchen ended up costing a lot more than expected, so we do have loans - some very generous low interest ones - to fulfill, so we hope to be able to set some funds aside to cover those.
Unfortunately for us, as for many others in the Wellington region, times are still tough. As a business we are barely making ends meet, due to rising costs of just about everything. We know that this is the case for almost everyone at the moment and itās a part of being in business to weather the financial ups and downs. We will get through this! But we do count on your support, so big thanks to our subscribers and return customers for choosing us over our larger competitors. All your money is going straight back into the business - paying our team a living wage (which is going up to $27.80/hr this month), produce bills, overheads, and loans. We donāt have the financial padding of big investors to fall back on, itās all purely from customer sales, so we really rely on and are grateful for your continued support!
Speaking of produce, in light of this new season, we thought weād highlight ourĀ Fresh Produce SectionĀ - something some of you might not know about! Did you know you can order (with a meal box or without) seasonal, NZ-grown produce from us any time? We get our deliveries fresh daily from our supplier Capital Produce - another small family business we are proud to support. Their dedication to getting us the best available local produce, as fresh as possible, and often at short notice, is excellent and we really appreciate their help making our meal boxes lush and vibrant with freshness! Because of their mahi we are able to offer fruit, veggies, and now fresh herbs, all plastic free, as products on our website. Box orders $30 and over to most delivery zones have free shipping, and adding on one-off extras to subscription orders is easy - we combine all separate orders from the same accounts each week - so you can order whenever you like!
